Overview

The "City of Bright Nights Ball" is a fund-raising event to support the Spirit of Springfield and the holiday lighting displays in Downtown Springfield. This gala event includes a gourmet dinner, entertainment and dancing in an elegant atmosphere not to be outdone, in the Grand Ballroom of the Sheraton Springfield. This year's theme is "Monopoly®."

In 1996, sponsor contributions and proceeds from the evening afforded the Spirit of Springfield the opportunity to outline with lights Springfield's Municipal Group consisting of City Hall, Symphony Hall and the Campanile. In 1997, the Municipal Group was again illuminated along with ten Springfield Fire Department Stations. In 1998, 22 halos were purchased and installed on the Memorial Bridge in cooperation with the Town of West Springfield. Completing the Court Square lighting was the focus of the 1999 and 2000 events. Many private businesses have also purchased major displays to illuminate their buildings.
