Pre-order Springfield's September 11th Monument Booklet "Forever In Our Hearts" HERE

The 28-page soft cover booklet reminds readers of the tragedies that occurred on September 11, 2001.  It tells about the Springfield Police and Fire Departments’ and the Spirit of Springfield’s goal to obtain an artifact from the World Trade Center, when the piece was picked up, the hero’s welcome that it received, the monument’s design, and selecting the perfect location.  It includes the monument’s dedication ceremony with Andrew Card, former Chief of Staff to President George W. Bush, and who will be remembered as the man who whispered to the President that the country was under attack.

  • About

To honor the fallen firefighters, police officers, EMT's and members of the armed services, the Springfield Fire and Emergency Services and Springfield Police Department will hold the September 11th Remembrance Ceremony on September 10th at 6pm in front of Springfield's September 11th Monument in Riverfront Park.

There will be remembrances offered by Springfield Fire Commissioner, Springfield Police Commissioner, Emergency Services, 104th Fighter Wing with greetings from Mayor Domenic Sarno.

The ceremony includes rolling out the equipment, tolling of the bell, laying of the wreath, a rifle salute and taps.

    History

One year after the September 11, 2001, attacks, the Spirit of Springfield was asked to lend the organization's expertise to honor the first responders who lost their lives.  The first ceremony held at the Raymond Sullivan Public Safety Complex followed the time line of the tradgedies and of the names reading of police officers, firefighters and members of the military who died.

In 2019, the event was moved to Riverfront Park where Springfield's September 11th Monument was dedicated earlier that year.
